York Youth Care Council thanked its sponsors at a function at York District High School on December 3.

Students from the high school prepared food and served morning tea to guests. The function was to acknowledge the support the council received from local businesses, community groups and individuals.

The group has for many years raised money to fund the chaplaincy at York District High School. The chaplain, Leonie Whisson,  works with students, families and staff to encourage and foster  the social, emotional, mental and physical development of children.

She also works to build relationships, offer pastoral care, provide additional practical help to teachers and administrative staff, provide positive role models and promote links between schools and the local community.

York Youth Care Council chairman, John Harris, said the group had to raise thousands of dollars a year to maintain the service at the school and thanked those who had contributed.
