Employment agency, Essential Personnel, which was established in Northam in 1989 has earned outstanding ratings as assessed by the federal Department of Social Services.

The organization is an incorporated, not for profit group specializing in employment for people with a disability and has offices in Northam, Merredin, Moora and Midland and more recently in Cannington.

It provides services to about 250 people in the Midlands-Wheatbelt  and East Metropolitan regions. In the recent ratings it gained a star percentage of 61% and a star rating of 5 in the Midlands-Wheatbelt and 45% and 5 respectively in the North Metropolitan.

CEO Tony Marwick said, “This is an outstanding result for the group. "When viewed in the context a star percentage of 0% is regarded as average while a rating of 40% is in the top 10% of Australian disability employment providers. "A percentage of 61% is just a phenomenal result. "Our Merredin office received 88% placing it in the top 1% Australia wide. "It is also the first time the group has received an overall star rating of 5,” he said.

Local member and Minister for Water and Forestry, Mia Davies MLA, was in Merredin to congratulate CEO Tony Marwick and staff members Brenda Hobbs and Gavin Brookshaw on their outstanding achievement. "Essential Personnel provided an invaluable service to the region," she said.
