There will be several high profile guests at the opening of this year's York Society Art and Crafts awards.

The entries will be judged by Dr Stefano Carboni, Director of the Art Gallery of WA and his wife, Maria, an artist and art curator. The exhibition will be opened by local member of  parliament, Christian Porter MHR, at noon on October 5 in the York town hall.

Spokesperson, Liz Parker, said there were 267 entries, up about 30 on last year and a new category for works in mosaics was well received. The optional theme was 'Families'  and had attracted some interesting work on the topic, she said.

Mrs Parker acknowledged the contribution of the major sponsors of the awards, Healthway: Act-Belong-Commit; York and Districts Community Bank  and the Shire of York along with the many others that had provided support.

Opening hours for the exhibition are 10.00am-4.00pm daily and 10.00am-8.00pm Thursday, October 10 to give working people a chance to attend. For further information call 0428 322 167.
