A couple's plan to buy a block at York changed when the opportunity arose towards the end of last year, to buy an established property.

Adrian and Paula Kinsey were looking at a block on which to set up a retreat but decided on the existing facility instead.

They bought the Bayleaf cafe and retreat on Great Southern Highway just west of town and renamed it The Olive Branch York WA.  Since arriving they have been busy renovating the rooms and extensive orchard, olive grove and gardens. They held a small function to officially open their business in March.

The complex has three large, self contained spa units which have been redecorated and new linen provided. "We also offer luxury stays for anyone wanting something extra. "This includes provision of big bathrobes, bath salts, white linen and extra large towels. "We also provide a cooked breakfast as well as other meals if guests want them," Paula said.

They have reopened the cafe for afternoon teas and  take bookings for functions catering for groups of up to 20 people. They offer morning and afternoon teas, lunches and dinners.  The cafe is also set up for interactive seminars and learning programs.

Before coming to York Adrian and Paula had lived and worked in the Pilbara. More recently Paula worked as a school chaplain at Ballajura and Adrian owned and operated several small businesses in Perth.

Adrian is a passionate follower of Formula 1 car racing and MotoGP and in 2004  was one of two Australians to win a trip to the Ferrari factory and race track in Italy.

They have four adult children all married and seven grandchildren. Their sons live in Perth. One daughter and her family has moved to York and the other who is married  to a police officer, lives in Northam.

Both commented on the warm welcome they had received to York and the peaceful setting and expansive views from their property.

The Olive Branch cafe is open every day from 2.00 to 4.00pm. For bookings outside these times call 96411320 or email at
