LOCAL CHILDREN BENEFIT
FROM GRANT FOR NEW TOYS

Local children are already enjoying the benefits of a Lotterywest grant that enabled the York Toy Library to buy a big collection of new toys.

Program manager for families and children at Lotterywest, Lucy Reynolds, was in York on November 17 to hand over a cheque for more than $7,500 to help pay for the new toys. A special morning tea and sausage sizzle involving friends, families and invited guests was held to celebrate the occasion.

The area behind the old fire station community centre was set up with an amazing array of toys, ride-ons and games to cater for young children.

Mrs Reynolds said that it was an honour to be in York to hand over the grant to help families in their determination to develop their children’s’ potential.  The toy library allowed families to borrow good quality toys and games, overcoming the prohibitive cost involved in individual purchases, she said.

President of the toy library, Sheena Turton, said she was pleased with the great turn out and that the toys and games on display and being used by the children were only a fraction of what the committee had been able to buy.

In thanking everyone she singled out the York APEX Club, York Co-op, York Community Bank, the Shire and the families and the committee for their contributions.

The current membership was made up of 17 families. Any family with young children was welcome to join, she said.

Enquires should be directed to Sheena on 9641 2565 or Tanya on 9641 4068.
